When the Sun City Ceramics Club was first established, Del Webb provided the club with certified instructors. They were available to the club room daily. They also did the casting and firing. All of this was done in one room. We had about 10-15 molds and 1 kiln.
As the Club grew, a Board of Officers were elected and members were taught how to take over the duties of monitoring, casting and firing. We now have four rooms and close to 700 molds and 4 kilns. Ceramics offers an opportunity to use your creativity and learn new methods with our many various Workshops available to members as well as instructional classes in preparation, painting and completion of ceramic items. Before anyone can join the Ceramics Club, they must take the Beginners Class even if you have done ceramics some time ago. A Sign up sheet is located in the Club Room. You will be contacted by the instructor and advised when the next Class will be offered. During open hours a monitor is available to help members with getting a piece into or out of the Firing Room or picking up a piece from the Casting Room. If a monitor is not present, you will not be able to to obtain anything from either the Firing or Casting Room, but a member may use the club room to work on projects anytime. Monitoring is voluntary, and without room monitors, members do not have access to the Casting or Firing Rooms. We ask our members to monitor eight (8) times a year. This will qualify a member for a Holiday Party discount. Casters and Firers are also volunteers and are trained by the Head of Casting and Firing. Membership meetings are held 4 times a year, January, May, October and an Appreciation Holiday Luncheon in December. Minutes for 2025: DUES ARE $40 and are collected in January See Membership Form page. We also have a contest with a different theme each year. There are categories for prizes and the winners receive an award. Theme for 2025 Holiday Party Contest TBD Entries for 2024 Holiday Party
